About
Nathan Bowles is emerging as one of the most promising young tenors of his generation. A member of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program with LA Opera, he is a versatile artist praised as “A star in the making” and a voice with “Stamina and gleam.”
Bowles made his mainstage debut with The Dallas Opera as Benvolio in Roméo et Juliette, and has also appeared with the company’s outreach program as Miguel in Offenbach’s Pépito and Dandini in The Billy Goats Gruff. He debuted with LA Opera last season as Benvolio and has since returned as the Bullfighter in Ainadamar and Borsa in Rigoletto. This season with the company, he will appear as Parpignol in La Bohème, Dr. Caius in Falstaff, and First Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte. He made his Tulsa Opera debut early last year as Don José in The Tragedy of Carmen. Most recently, he made his role and house debut with Pacific Opera Project as Canio in Pagliacci. Recent summer engagements include performances with The Santa Fe Opera as the Animal Tamer and as a waiter in Der Rosenkavalier.
Other operatic credits include Don José in Carmen, John Styx in Orpheus in the Underworld, the Baker in Into the Woods, and Alfred in Die Fledermaus with Western Plains Opera. With Meadows Lyric Theatre at SMU, he appeared as Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia and Judge Danforth in The Crucible.
Bowles was a Finalist in the 2025 Operalia World Opera Competition. He was a National Finalist in the 2024 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. He is a recipient of the 2024 Richard F. Gold Career Grant. He has appeared in concert as a soloist with the LA Symphony, the Palm Springs Opera Guild, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Minot Symphony Orchestra, Minot State University Chorale in Hailstork’s I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes, and with Highland Park Methodist Church in Vaughan Williams’ Hodie in their Tower Arts Series. This spring he will join the Taiwan Philharmonic as he debuts Siegmund in Die Walküre, and appears with the Minot Symphony Orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
Bowles is a graduate of Minot State University and holds a Master of Music degree and a Performer’s Diploma from Southern Methodist University.
